Extension of 7th Road moves forward

July 1, 2013

07/02/13 Land purchases that will be part of the new 7th Road extension continue to move forward.

Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday that three of the parcels that are part of the project are now secured and that court condemnation cases have been filed on the other two.

Marshall County has settled with two sign companies that own property on the proposed route of the new road. The county paid a higher amount for the property to those two companies – Vanadco and Perma Advertising.

The county filed condemnation proceedings on two properties on the project route. At an appropriation hearing last week Clevenger said the court asked for legal briefs.

The land owner claims that the county has not negotiated in “good faith” and the court will rule on the matter. Clevenger said that there will be some delay on the settlement as the court receives the briefs and makes a decision.

A hearing for the only other remaining parcel will be held in July.

Request for Proposals on the project are out and due in July.
