06/06/13 This week Tony Gamble appeared before the Plymouth Park Board to update them on the progress of “Freedom Park” and all inclusive park.
The grassroots committee dedicated to fundraising for the park has been meeting for about a year. They believe that every child should have equal access to good, safe play opportunities.
Currently in the fundraising stage, Gamble said they had a booth at the Home Show to bring awareness to the project. They have created a Facebook page and have a QR Code for tech savvy people. The code will take you to the Freedom Park webpage and from there you can link on donation and take the direct link to the Community Foundation where they have approximately $4,000 in the account.
Gamble said cost estimates created by the Troyer Group are $921,000 and include three primary components of creating a high level of inclusive play; physical accessibility, age and developmentally appropriate and sensory stimulation activity. The concept design includes ramps and playground surfacing that promote physical accessibility around the site that include; a sensory garden, small play structure, large play structure, swings, shade trees and a splash pad.
Gamble said plans are underway for a 5K run walk on Saturday, August 17th in the park. The run/walk will begin and end at the amphitheatre. At the completion of the run/walk a concert will be held. Local singer, Chad Van Herk from Culver will open for “South Six 5,” a pair of teenagers from Greenwood, IN. the duo have two songs on I-tunes, released their first music video on June 1st and will be performing at Fan Fest at the Country Music Awards.
Gamble said he is working on another car show fundraiser too.
