11/26/13 Thanks to the “Boots for the Bus Stop” annual drive, well over 1000 pairs of snow boots have been distributed to area children. Twelve years ago, Cpl. Bridget Hite, Plymouth Police Department, began noticing kids standing at bus stops or walking to school without boots and realized they would have wet shoes the rest of the day. Now 12 years later, the need for donations still exists.
Hite said, “This event consists of collecting slightly used and new boots, hats and gloves for our local school children.” She added, “Today’s tough economic conditions make it difficult for families to make ends meet with out help from people in the community.”
Donations are distributed through area school on recommendations from school social staffs.
This year, Phi Delta Kappa is holding the 1st Annual Christmas Bazaar on December 1 from 11:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. to help raise money to purchase boots. Prairie View Group home will be utilizing their in-house cooking classes to provide fresh baked goods for the event. One-hundred percent of their proceeds will go to “Boots for the Bus Stop”.
P-Town team of 7th graders at Lincoln Junior High will be manning the table for the Prairie View Group home.
Phi Delta Kappa is located at 1300 West Harrison St. in Plymouth.
Along with the bake sale, more than 20 vendors will be on hand to round out the bazaar including: Mary Kay, Scentsy, Gold Canyon Candle, Pink Zebra, Lil’ Bit Country, Origami Owl, Avon, 31,Silpada, and several other baked goods and crafts tables.
The public is encouraged to stop by the event.
Boots, hats and glove donations can be dropped off at the following locations: Plymouth Police Department, Plymouth Park Department, Moose Lodge, and WTCA Radio Station. Hite is also willing to make arrangements to pick up donations if needed. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase items from local stores.
