11/12/13 Travis Tredway, Chairman of the Fundraising in Community for the PHS Riley Dance Marathon is seeking community support.

On February 8, 2013, Plymouth High School will be hosting their 3rd annual Dance Marathon benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.  Hundreds of PHS students will join together for a 9-hour marathon that involves dancing, eating, participating in games and activities, and listening to Riley patients share their heartwarming stories, all without sitting down.

The first dance marathon, established by IU Alumna Jill Stewart, took place on the Indiana University campus in 1981 after her friend, Ryan White, lost his battle with AIDS.  Every year since then, thousands of students on high school and college campuses throughout the state have participated in dance marathons to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

In its first year, Plymouth High School raised over $10,000 for Riley and the second year over $17,000.  This year, their sights are set even higher.  They hope to raise $20,000 for the children at Riley!  In addition to this fundraising goal, they hope to register at least 200 student dancers – that’s 15% of the PHS student body!  The members of the PHSDM Executive Board, both students and staff, are extremely motivated and are working hard to make this a possibility.  Tredway said, “As the Chair of the fundraising in Community Committee, I am excited to invite the community to help.”

The Dance Marathon is something special to each and every student at Plymouth High School.  With 5 Riley kids in the student body and countless others in surrounding communities, it is almost impossible not to be familiar with somebody that has been affected by the area Hospital for Children.  Tredway said, “For everything Riley does to help our fellow classmates and children, the least we can do is give back.  We stand, as do doctors during hour-long surgeries.  We surrender our Saturday.  We dance for those children that can’t.  Everything we do, we do for the kids.”

The success of the Plymouth High School Dance Marathon depends heavily on the generous help of family and friends.  For this reason, the Executive Board, on behalf of the Plymouth High School Dance Marathon, would sincerely appreciate any donation that businesses are able to offer.  Please remember that any amount helps!  All donations are tax deductible and checks can be made payable to:  Supporting Riley Children Inc.  It’s appreciated it if you would put “PHSDM” in the memo line.  Donations can be sent to the following address:
