10/16/13 The PHS Spell Bowl team finished third at the NLC competition at Northwood.  Goshen placed first, and Northwood took second, only one point ahead of the PHS team. Veteran spellers sophomore Andrew Miller and junior Anna Piazza turned in outstanding performances, missing only one word each.

The team also finished third at area competition at John Glenn High School.  Rival Penn had a perfect score of 90, followed by Mishawaka with a 49.  Plymouth scored 46.  Junior Katelyn O’Neal turned in a perfect performance, while senior Nate Mahan earned a near-perfect score.  Some of the challenging words that PHS students mastered included tremolo, academician, reptilian, vox populi, Shangri-La, scuttlebutt, Dostoyevsky, okapi, and merganser.
