The Plymouth Pilgratims traveled to Wawasee Friday night for an NLC battle at the “Hardcourt Tee-Pee”. The end result was another win for the visitors 57-30 over the Warriors. Plymouth improves to 11-2 (2-2 NLC).
“I felt this game was one of the those, “surprise” games for us. In the sense that Wawasee may have had just 3 wins coming in, but they are a better team than what their record indicated. So I wanted our kids to be guarded on that point. Secondly, we knew Wawasee had tendencies of running up and down the court….or simply going half-court against us like they did against Elkart Central. Our coaching staff wanted to make sure our kids understood what to do in both cases if they tried to play one style or the other against us.”, said Coach Ryan Bales.
Wawasee stuck with their half-court game which didn’t provide a whole lot of offense. The Warriors shot 9/40 from the field, 7/26 from outside the arc.
“We also knew they liked firing up three’s. Ball pressure was going to be key for us. I thought Ike Kastner (12 pts), David Lee (9 assists) had really good performances tonight. Mac (Mercer) was strong pretty much all night. But his defensive play, I thought, was even better.”, said Bales.
Mercer finished as the leading Pilgrim scorer with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a personel best 6 blocked shots in the ballgame. Kastner added his 12 points and was relentless on defense getting 4 steals and causing 6 turnovers. Joe Knapp threw in 11 pts offensively.
Plymouth never worried about losing the lead in this one. They had a 31-11 halftime lead and finished winning by 27 points.
Plymouth will now travel to Middlebury next Friday night. WTCA Pre-Game Show will be around 7:00pm.
