04/10/13 A single vehicle moped crash near Plymouth at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday sent one man to the hospital in serious condition. State police and emergency personnel respond to the crash on 7B Road west of Oak Road to find a man that crashed his moped into a wood chipper that was being used by workers from All State Tree Trimming Services alongside the road.

The driver of the moped was identified as Michael T. Auer, 52, of Plymouth. According to witnesses Auer disregarded men in the road that were directing traffic and acting as flaggers. Preliminary investigation by police showed that Auer drove his moped directly into the back of the wood chipper and did not take any evasive action prior to the crash.

Auer suffered severe lacerations to his head and fractures to his lower extremities. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Police believe that drug use may have played a role in the crash. The accident remains under investigation at this time.

ISP was assisted at the scene by Marshall County Police and Plymouth Fire, EMS and Police.  Lyons Wrecker service removed the moped.
