11/11/13 On October 30, 10 members from the Plymouth FFA Chapter traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for the National FFA Convention and Expo. The members that went include: Lilly Bottorff, Kassie Dickey, Makayla Fox, Lauren Goddard, Kara Gustafson, Sarah Lindvall, Tucker Pletcher, Jason Slonaker, Jamie Thomas, and Macy Warren along with FFA Advisor, Jacob Riley and female chaperone Michelle Lindvall.

Members had lots of fun going through the expo and shopping center. The shopping mall consisted of small shops and stores that sold agriculture related items. The expo center helped students explore careers, colleges and ag-related companies in the agriculture industry. The FFA members also enjoyed a Dierks Bentley concert, and made lots of memories just spending time with each other.

The chapter ended their last night with a team building activity that helped them grow closer together and gave them many ideas to bring back to the chapter.

Some of the topics discussed were FFA promotion within the Plymouth Community School Corporation, which needs to be further reviewed with the members and schools. The members also learned key values and ideas from attending a workshop, listening to famous speakers, such as Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino, and inspiring retiring addresses of some of the National officers.

The workshop taught the students to “Stop Saying, Start Doing! We’ve been talking the talk on values for far too long; it’s time to start walking the walk!” It showed students how to adopt lifestyles compatible to their values and help them identify how they can better value their time, family, and themselves. It was an enjoyable experience for the members and they will most certainly be reflecting back on these lessons for many years!
