Runners and Walkers Turn Out for Ta-Ta Trot

  07/10/13 Overcast skies and moderate temperatures created the perfect setting for the 166 participants who crossed the finished line at the 5th annual Ta-Ta Trot which took place Saturday morning behind Oliver Ford Lincoln in Plymouth.  Proceeds from the race benefit the Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is one of many recipients of funds raised by the Plymouth Ounce of Prevention Fund.

  Winners in the competition were Justin Kowalski (South Bend) and Crystal Hutchings (Argos) in the 10k run,

  Kennedy Schniders (Walkerton) and Kennedy Thompson (Plymouth) in the 5k run, and Jeanne White (Plymouth) and Mike Galloway (Terre Haute) in the 5k walk.

  During the event, checks totaling more than $28,000 were presented to representatives from Hello Gorgeous!, PHS Health Careers Class, Marshall County Cancer Association, St Joseph Cancer Institute, St. Joseph Radiology, Community Hospital of Bremen, Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship, IU Health Starke, OOP Scholarship, and St. Joseph Radiology.

  Charlotte Stone was crowned the 2013 Ta-Ta Trot Queen, and was joined by past queens Judy Newberg and Joan Newberg Hunt (2012 Sister Queens), Billie Kimble (2011), and Patti Bates (2010)  Members of Nancy Jaynes’ family were also on hand to share in the celebration of their sister and mother.

  Plymouth Ounce of Prevention is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to unify the small efforts of many to create a greater impact to assist those diagnosed with and affected by cancer in Marshall County, Indiana. 

  Initially focusing exclusively on breast cancer, Ounce of Prevention has recently expanded its scope to envelope all types of cancer, when it supported the creation of and began underwriting the role of Nurse Navigator at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus. Lois Carver ( has stepped into the position, serving as a liaison for those newly diagnosed or further down the cancer treatment path, in whatever way they need.

  The next major Ounce of Prevention event is the 10th annual MargariTATAville Party, scheduled for October 5th, 2013 at Young’s Amphitheatre in Plymouth. More information is available at
