07/17/13  Loretta Schmidt, RN, MSN, CPHQ, has been named President of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) Plymouth Campus.

Loretta has more than 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Her diverse healthcare background includes critical care, home care, emergency medicine, medical surgical, quality, accreditation, risk, and departmental and executive leadership roles.

Most recently, Loretta served as Interim President and Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer at SJRMC-Plymouth. She previously held the position of Director of Quality for both the SJRMC Mishawaka and Plymouth campuses. Her leadership was instrumental to SJRMC being named a recipient of the Truven Health’s Top 15 Health System Award, as well as the Plymouth Campus receiving the Top 100 Hospital Award in 2012.

“Loretta has been an integral part of our Saint Joseph leadership for a long time, and I am honored to announce her new role within our organization,” said Albert L. Gutierrez, SJRMC President and CEO. “As a nurse, she has a passion for improving quality and patient safety. She has a deep commitment to Plymouth and the surrounding communities, and will ensure that we continue to do what needs to be done to provide the best possible care for all.”

Loretta began her career with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Indiana University, where she was awarded the Clinical and Academic Excellence Award. She obtained her master’s degree in Nursing in 2005 from Valparaiso University. Currently, Loretta is enrolled in a Certificate of Business certification program at Indiana University. In addition, she is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and has passed the ACHE certification exam for Healthcare Executives.
