12/09/13 In partnership with FamilyWize, United Way of Marshall County provides prescription drug discount cards to individuals and families who have no prescription insurance or whose insurance does not cover certain brand name medications.  Cards are available through local pharmacies, the United Way of Marshall County office, and local agencies.  An electronic version, is available online, at www.marshallcountyuw.org, or text the word “family” to 700700 and the discount card will be sent to your cell phone.

Since 2005, FamilyWize, United Ways, and pharmacies around the country have helped people stay healthy and productive in more than 95 percent of all U.S. counties. The partnership has provided free prescription discount cards to help people get the medicine they need, accounting for more than $500 million in direct savings on prescriptions.

“United Way is focusing on creating opportunity for all by improving health, education and financial stability,” said Stacey Stewart, U.S. President of United Way Worldwide. “Our partnership with FamilyWize helps us advance that cause, and 1,000 United Ways across America are helping people be healthier and more productive.”

It’s easy to use a FamilyWize Card. There are no forms to fill out, waiting period or registration. The card is really just like a reusable prescription coupon on all FDA approved medicines. Anyone in your family, your work, your church or your neighborhood can use it. You can even use it if you have health insurance, both during deductible periods and for anything your insurance does not pay for.

“United Way of Marshall County provides free FamilyWize prescription discount cards for everyone in our area, printed cards and, now, electronically as well,” explains Linda Yoder, Executive Director of the United Way of Marshall County. “When 1 out of every 4 people in our community has trouble buying their medicine, we’re looking for all ways possible to make sure every person in our community gets the free help provided by these cards.”

United Way of Marshall County and FamilyWize have already saved people living and working in our community over $450,000 on the cost of their prescription medicine.  Please take one minute to help yourself, and to help your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers by spreading the word about this important free help.
