01/11/13 Plymouth Schools Superintendent Daniel Tyree was given a green light by the School Board members on January 8 to seek a contract with a safety consultant. Tyree explained at the regularly scheduled Board meeting that he is aware of three agencies and one individual consultant that specialize in safety consulting. Tyree said he would like a consultant to do on-site tours of all of the facilities in the corporation and then write an assessment. Tyree said, “We want to approach this logically.”
Tyree had issued a letter to parents and guardians of all students on January 7 on how the corporation is pursuing further safety plans. Tyree said, “Indiana is the only state in the country that requires each school to have a Trained Safety Specialist.” He added, “Currently, PCSC has one Safety Specialist and in a couple of months, PCSC will have three. Michele Riise, director of Quality Programs, is already trained and Craig Hopple, Lincoln Junior High assistant principal, and Dave Schoof, maintenance director, are in training.
In other matters, Tyree informed the Board that he will be holding three focus group meetings as they look at strategic planning. He said one group will be made up of teachers, the second with parents, and the third with business and industry. He indicated that the meetings would be held during the first three months of 2013.
The Board approved a snow make-up day of January 21. School was out for one day due to fog and the day must be made up.
The Board members filed conflict of interest statements at the January 8 meeting. Tyree said, “It (statements) is making it public that there could be conflict of interests” The Board approved naming Kandi Tinkey as treasurer and established an individual bond for the treasurer and retained Jeff Houin as legal counsel. Houin is with Easterday and Ummel in Plymouth.
