01/14/13 The STIHL Timberworks Lumberjack Show is a new addition to the annual Outdoor Sports, Lake & Cabin Show, set for Jan. 25-27 at Fort Wayne’s Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave.

Performance times are 2, 5 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25; 11:30 a.m., 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26; and noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.

The shows include century old skills like axe throwing, chopping, log rolling, cross cut sawing, hot sawing and chainsaw carving, which were all used in the logging camps of North America. To pass idle time, lumberjacks used to challenge each other in a head-to-head competition. Although technology and machinery have replaced manual labor, the skills are still used today by the lumberjacks in the STIHL Timberworks Lumberjack Show.

Competitors will race up poles at lightning speed or saw through twelve inches of aspen with the speed of a modern day chain saw. They will also show off their fancy footwork while running on logs or axe throw with the precision of a dartboard champion.

In addition, over 150 exhibitors will span 108,000 square-feet of the Coliseum offering show-only bargains, and the opportunity to compare, test and purchase thousands of top-quality products and services in the following categories: Biking, Hiking, Camping and Fitness, Hunting and Fishing, Boats and Water Sports, Vacation and Travel, RVs and Motor Sports and Cottage Living.

Other special features and attractions include a new air rifle shooting range and Harley-Davidson simulator, two stocked fishing ponds, 400 square-foot indoor beach and duck pond, 25,000-gallon canoe and kayak lagoon, 40-foot fishing and hunting video game arcade, fully furnished oak cabin for sale, duck calling and kids fishing contests, hourly giveaways, exotic animals, over 50 free seminars and much more.

Cost is $10 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. General show admission is valid throughout the entire weekend.

Show hours are Friday, noon to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
