12/30/13 A crash Thursday evening just after 5 sent a Walkerton man to Memorial Hospital by helicopter.
66 year old William Scheibelhut of Thorn Road had ridden his Wheel Horse lawn tractor across Thorn Road to his mailbox. After checking the mailbox he turned around to travel back across the roadway and drove into the path of a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by 33 year old Joanne Drews.
County Officer Jordan Rans investigated the incident and found that Drews had attempted to avoid the collision, however she was unable to avoid impact with the tractor.
William Scheibelhut sustained an injury to his head and injuries to his right hip and shoulder. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend by helicopter.
County Police Rans was assisted at the scene by Polk Township Fire, Plymouth EMS and officers with the Sheriff’s Department.
