Friday, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) announced the artwork entered in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition from the 2nd Congressional District is now on display at the South Bend International Airport. The public can view the 68 submissions now through Tuesday, May 13.
“I am really impressed with the students from across the 2nd District who submitted outstanding artwork for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Each year, I really look forward to seeing the entries and, this year especially, I’m really impressed by the level of talent in our community’s young artists,” Walorski said. “Based on the quality of entries, I’m glad I don’t have the hard job of trying to determine a winner. Each entrant should be proud of their talent and hard work and I thank each school and student who participated.”
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the nation from each Congressional district.
A judging panel comprised of four local artists will help to select a winning entry, which will then be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Walorski will announce the will later this month. Each entry is posted on Walorski’s Facebook page.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to recognize the artistic talents of high school students in their districts. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
