02/25/14 Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter gave his State of the City Address during last night’s Common Council meeting. The theme of this year’s speech was direction.
After taking time to thank the “great employees of Plymouth” Senter recognized City Attorney Sean Surrisi. He said, “He has gone beyond what I expected….he has kept all of us out of hot water more than a few times.” The Mayor also recognized the 2013 Indiana Association of Cities and Town’s Financial Management Award winner, Plymouth Clerk Treasurer Toni Hutchings.
For the third year in a row Operation Bright Spot was on the Mayor’s State of the City Address. This year he announced his decision to move the code enforcement from the building commission’s office to the Plymouth Police Department. Police Chief Dave Bacon has dedicated two officer, one on the day shift and one on the evening shift to take on the task with the assistance of Building Commission Keith Hammonds.
The mayor mentioned the Youth Council’s plans for a major Earth Day celebration on April 26th, the ribbon cutting ceremony planned for River Park Square in May, and the recent announcement of a federal grant award in the amount of $445,504 for phase two of the Greenway Trail.
As Senter continued his address “The Right Direction” he talked about the job retention and creation the city has experienced with the help of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation. The mayor highlighted the expansions of American Container and Kessler Crane.
Mayor Senter spoke of the many changes at the Plymouth Airport with manager Dave Lattimer’s leadership and the aviation board’s aggressiveness including new roofs, heating and AC, a new sign, sidewalks, landscaping, pilot’s quarters, lobby improvements and hanger updates.
The State of the City Address also included comments on the partnership between the City of Plymouth Redevelopment Commission, the MCEDC, Garmong Construction and PIDCO for the new shell building that will break ground on April 8th.
As the mayor commented, these are all steps in The Right Direction.
