After being recognized this weekend by the National Guard Association of the United States SenatorJoe Donnelly pledged to continue his strong commitment to the National Guard. Donnelly, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, received the Charles Dick Medal of Merit during the National Guard Association of Indiana’s annual conference Saturday in French Lick.
Donnelly said, “The National Guard has a long and proud tradition of service to our nation, whether in domestic emergencies or wars overseas, and I am honored to be recognized with this award. I will do everything possible to continue supporting the National Guard, Hoosier service members, and their families. There is work to be done this year to ease transitions for Guard members and military families, and to ensure that we maintain the incredible gains the National Guard has made since 9/11 as an operational reserve.”
The Indiana National Guard is the fourth largest contingent in the country, and Donnelly has the privilege of working on issues that directly affect the National Guard as well as the security of our nation, and the wellbeing of our military and their families.
The Charles Dick Medal of Merit that NGAUS awarded Donnelly was established in 1988 and recognizes the contributions of elected officials to the National Guard. The medal is named in honor of the late Charles Dick, a former National Guard Major General, Congressman, Senator and president of the National Guard Association of the United States. Dick is also known for leading the charge in Congress that established the modern National Guard.
