crash_investigation350At approximately 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 22nd the Starke County 9-1-1 Center received multiple calls of a traffic accident that had occurred on US 30 near Knoll Brothers with multiple patients and one entrapped.

As Starke County Officers arrived they found an SUV pulling a wood chipper on its side with one of the occupants trapped in the vehicle. The other occupant and child were standing outside of the vehicle.

During the investigation it was found that a semi had been involved in the accident and had stopped about a quarter of a mile west of the accident. As the investigation continued officers spoke with two separate witness’ that stated the semi pulled out of Knoll Brothers heading westbound on US 30 in the right lane. The SUV was also traveling westbound on US 30 and must not have seen the semi pull out and ran into the rear of the semi causing the SUV to roll over on its side.

The driver of the SUV and the child in the rear seat were transported to I.U. Health Starke Hospital and the front seat passenger was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. All three occupants that were transported did not appear to have life threatening injuries.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS, Hamlet Fire Department, Knox Fire Department and the Indiana State Police. This accident remains under investigation
