County News_logoThe update on the 7th Road project during the Commissioner’s meeting on Monday included four change orders totaling $165,264.34.

Bart Trester from USI said a number of work orders had been approved by both Commissioner Kevin Overmyer and INDOT to keep the project moving forward. Some of those include the unforeseen issues with soils, additional materials needed and the bridge piling issues.

Overmyer did note that the changes orders are part of the 80/20 split so the county’s portion will be just over $32,000.

Trester confirmed that the round-a-bout at Michigan Road would not be completed this year. He said the asphalt plants are closing down and weather limitations will cause the contractor to shut down operations for the winter.

It was noted that Lilac Road and Linden Road are now open for through traffic.

Commissioner Jack Roose asked about traffic during the winter on the round-a-bout. He is concerned that a vehicle may drive off the roadway with the winter weather. Trester said the contractor is responsible for maintaining the barrels. Roose suggested having plastic delimitation poles on the edge of the roadway and down the center line.

Trester also updated the Commissioners on the Metronet Conduit Instillation project. The final section to be accepted by the County was on Overmyer Drive between the City Water Treatment Plant and State Road 17 making the project complete. On a side note Trester said the City’s conduit installation is complete including the railroad crossings. It was also anticipated that Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center and Hoosier Tire in Plymouth will be connected this week.
