07/21/14 On Friday, July 18, at approximately 1:00 a.m. an officer with the Marshall County Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on U.S. 31 at the intersection of U.S. 6. During the stop, County Police Canine Arras walked around the vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle located several items of contraband including nearly 150 grams of marijuana. The driver, 25 year old Cory Scheibelhut of Mishawaka, and a passenger 25 year old Kasey Correll from East Leroy, Michigan were arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail.
Both subjects were given a court date of August 26, in Superior Court II.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
