02/06/14 On Wednesday the Indiana Department of Transportation opened bids for the 7th Road extension project.  The new roadway will be from the New US 31 project westward to Michigan Road over the Seltenright Ditch and the New US 31 eastward to Linden Road.

Engineer’s estimate for the entire project was $5,576,000.

Nine contractors submitted bids for the project.  The apparent low bidder for the project was from Phend and Brown from Milford at $5,192,175.

G E Marshall Inc. from Valparaiso $8,546,699

HRP Construction Inc. from South Bend $9,220,249 and

Hoffman Brothers Inc. from Battle Creek $7,470,964

The low bid was about a half-a-million under the engineer’s estimate. 

Marshall County has the local match funding in place for the project.  Once all the bids have been reviewed by INDOT and the County Commissioners it is presumed that they will award the bid at their next meeting on Monday, February 17th.  Once the bids are awarded, the paper work is completed and the notice to proceed is in place construction could begin every early this spring.
