DONALDSON – The public is invited to join Rev. Dr. Sam Boys, Professor of Religion and Philosophy as he discusses James Geary’s book I Is An Other: The Secret Life of Metaphor. This event will take place on Tuesday, May 6, from 7-8 p.m. at Earthworks Market located at 900 W. Jefferson St. in Plymouth.

Boys will facilitate a discussion about the ways modern neurological research shows that metaphorical thinking is the quintessential way humans make sense of the world. The title of the book is borrowed from French poet Arthur Rimbaud, but it might as well have been drawn from Carl Jung or Stephen Hawking.  I Is An Other is more concerned with the power of associative thought than the power of flowery language.  Metaphorical thinking is, in fact, essential to almost all forms of human pursuit, from childhood play to scientific innovation. Join us for an “I opening” discussion.

All are welcome regardless of whether you’ve read the book or not.  If you don’t have time to read the book, check out James Geary’s TED talk at http://www.ted.com/talks/james_geary_metaphorically_speaking.
