During the June 3 Plymouth School Board meeting, Steven Boyer was approved as the new principal for Menominee Elementary beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Boyer replaces Amy Gerard, who has served as interim principal since March of this year.

He was appointed under a two-year contract.

Boyer has been the Assistant Principal at Riverside Intermediate since July, 2012 after then Assistant Principal Jeni Hirschy was appointed principal.

Boyer came to the Plymouth Schools in 2006 as a Language Arts teacher at Lincoln Junior High.

While at LJH, Boyer initiated an after school reading program designed to enrich high-achieving readers. During his time as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher, Boyer served on several committees including those addressing leadership and accountability. He also served as a coach for the English Academic Super Bowl Team and football, cross county and basketball teams.

While at LJH, he collaborated in case conferences to develop IEP’s (Individual Education Plans) 504’s, as well as other intervention plans and worked with remediation for at-risk students. At Riverside, he attended the New Tech Annual Conference and participated in discussion groups over leadership and PBL (Project Based Learning).

He graduated from Triton High School in 2002, received a Bachelor of Science from Manchester College in 2006 and Master of Arts in Education in 2012 from Indiana Wesleyan University. In 2013, he completed a Principal Licensure Program.

He student taught at Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, Mentone, and Portage Middle School, Ft. Wayne.

Referring to his newly appointed position, Boyer said, “I feel that I will fit into Menominee well.” In responding to what he believes he will bring to the school, Boyer described himself as caring, supportive and an instructional leader. Superintendent Daniel Tree said, “Steven (Boyer) is accomplished in both education and administration.” According to Tyree, they received 40 applications for the position, interviewed 12, bought back 6 for an additional interview and finally narrowed the applications down to three. Boyer was then unanimously selected by three separate committee interviews by parents, administrators, and teachers.

Boyer and his wife Jillian are the parents of two sons, ages two and six months.
