Caucus_republican partyThursday evening Republican representatives of Center Township who represent the city precincts participated in the city caucus to select a replacement for current Clerk Treasurer Toni Hutchings who is retiring at the end of the month.

caucus_jeanineMarshall County Republican Chairman David Holmes announced that there was only one candidate for the vacancy and introduced Jeanine Xaver.

caucus_mayor_jeanine_toniXaver introduced herself and said she was grateful that Hutchings had selected her to work in the office as her deputy and encouraged her to continue her education. Xaver earned her associates degree from IUSB and is currently working on her bachelor’s degree from IU east. She was also encouraged to take on additional chores in the office including the workers comp liaison, human resource position and recording secretary for the Plymouth Plan Commission and Plymouth Aviation Board.

Xaver has taken advantage of training offered by the state and last year Hutchings instructed her on how to prepare the city budget and this year supervised her preparation of the 2015 budget.

Xaver noted the changes she has seen while working in the office including the property tax caps and the illumination of business personal property tax. She noted both changes lessened incoming tax money for the city. New laws passed that require spending additional city money like the new healthcare reform and the unfunded mandates for the separation of storm sewer systems.

Since there were no other candidates there was a motion accepted by the Center Township representatives who represent the city and a unanimous voice vote to select Jeanine Xaver as the City of Plymouth’s new Clerk Treasurer. She will take office on Wednesday, October 1st.
