02/25/14 Dan Weidner, Treasurer of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce appeared before the Plymouth Common Council Monday evening to propose a joint venture between city and chamber to provide a City Development Director/Chamber Executive Director.

The proposal by the Chamber was that the employee would be a new position in the city budget with the Chamber paying a portion of the salary and benefit package.   Through a contractual arrangement the person would spend 50% of their time doing work for the city and 505 of their time doing Chamber duties.

The City Development Director/Chamber Executive Director would be responsible for initiating and coordinating residential, retail, commercial and industrial improvements and growth in the Plymouth community as well as providing executive leadership to the Chamber and the City of Plymouth. The position would also involve developing strategies that would lead toward a successful and financially stable future for the Chamber and City of Plymouth.

The employee would perform work involving a variety of problem solving, community relations, media relations, social media, and public contact responsibilities.

Member of the Plymouth Common Council asked about the prior working relationship between the Chamber and City, where the office would be located what the financial responsibility for the city would be, how would the employee be hired and when would the position be filled.

Weidner indicated at an estimated cost to the city would be $46,000.

The Plymouth Common Council motioned to table the idea for further research.
