Tom Snyder delivers a pitch during his one hit shutout Tuesday

FT. WAYNE – With the first week of MCCAA action put on hold by the weather the Ancilla Chargers took an opportunity to take advantage of the warm weather with no preciptation and play a game with Indiana Tech, splitting a double header falling in game one by a 4-2 final and taking advantage of a pitching gem by Tom Snyder (LaPorte High School) in a 6-0 game two win.

Brad Rist (NorthWestern High School) pitched well enough to win game one but a tough first inning would be the Chargers undoing in falling to the Warriors. Rist went three and two thirds innings giving up just three hits but a Charger first inning error led to Blake Vols two run single that would be the key blow in a Warrior three run first inning.

Kainen Lewis (Louisville Male High School) Shay Hepler (Warsaw High School) and Landon Cole (Wabash High School) each had a pair of hits in the game. Jalon Linville (Louisville Male High School) and Ryan Reese (Lebanon High School) had the Charger RBI’s. Chase Smith (Frankton High School) tossed two and a third innings of hitless relief, striking out three.

Snyder was masterful in game two tossing his second one hitter in a little more than a week. In his last three starts Snyder has allowed just two earned runs and 5 hits in 21 innings work.

“We really needed that from Tommy and it seems like that’s what he’s giving us every time out,” said Ancilla Head Coach Joe Yonto of his sophomore pitcher. “He’s pitched well enough to be 4-0 right now.

“It was just a really good team win for us. Tommy needed a ‘W’, we needed a ‘W’. We did all the things we need to do to win – situational hitting, solid defense and it was really good to put a few hits together and put some runs on the board.”

Hepler’s bases clearing double in the sixth was the big blow for the Chargers also highlighting a four hit day for the Warsaw grad. Lewis also doubled home a run in the game. Tyler Bradburn (Rockville High School) had a pair of hits including a double and an RBI.

The Chargers (3-11) are scheduled to take on Holy Cross College at Newton Park on Thursday.
