MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Ancilla’s Chargers battled back but couldn’t pull out a win against the College of Southern Maryland – falling 8-6 – but rebounded to take a win over Garrett Community College by a 6-4 final.

The Chargers jumped to a 2-0 lead in their first at bat against CSM but quickly found themselves trailing 7-2. Ancilla was able to get the lead run on base in the games final frame but couldn’t push it across the plate in taking the loss.

“When you leave 15 runners on base it makes it very hard to win a game,” said Ancilla head coach Joe Yonto. “We were still within a hit of at least tying the game in the last inning. So our relief pitching was solid.”

Landon Cole (Wabash High School) had a pair of hits and RBI’s for the Chargers. T.J. Eads (Frankton High School) added a three run double. Brad Rist (Northwestern High School) took the loss in his first start of the year. Demetrius Hurt (Muncie Central High School) pitched three innings of hitless relief striking out five.

Game two saw a strong return for the Chargers taking a 3-0 second inning lead and never trailing for the win over Garrett.

Bryan Avalos (River Forest High School) went three strong innings but had to leave with tightness in his back. Conor Milligan (Kokomo High School) gets the win in relief – his first of the season. Clayton Adamson came on to strike out two in the seventh to take the save.

“This was just a great team win,” said Yonto. “We had a lot of guys make plays and big us up.”

Jordon Man (Speedway High School) had a pair of hits and RBI’s for the Chargers. Shay Hepler (Warsaw High School) added a pair of hits with an RBI and a stolen base.

Ancilla moves to 2-6 and takes on Mohawk Valley Community College and CSM in a pair of games on Friday.
