MYRTLE BEACH, SC – It was a day of high’s and lows for Ancilla’s Chargers as they opened a week of games at the Ripken Experience on a frigid day in South Carolina.
It was a rough start for the Chargers early in the day dropping a 10-0 morning game to Northhampton College but sophomore pitcher Tommy Snyder (LaPorte High School) put Ancilla back on track pitching a gem for a 6-2 Tuesday afternoon win.
Snyder went the distance striking out five and scattering five hits to take his first win of the season for Ancilla. Meanwhile the Chargers rebound from a three hit opening game to gather seven hits including Jalon Linville’s (Louisville Male High School) two run double that broke a two to two tie in the fifth to put the Chargers ahead for good.
“Tommy Snyder pitched an excellent ball game,” said Ancilla Head Coach Joe Yonto. “He was in command of the game and that’s what we needed from him after game one. Jalon (Linville), Landon (Cole) and Jason (Ferguson) had big hits for us in key times.
“We had good solid defensive play and Tommy mixed his pitches well. It’s the kind of baseball we have to play.”
Jason Ferguson (Warsaw High School) had an RBI single as did Landon Cole (Wabash High School). Shay Hepler (Warsaw High School) had a triple.
In game one the Chargers fell behind 4-0 in the first and good never recover. Luke Gaboury (Mishawaka Marian High School) threw three shut out innings after a rough start taking the loss. Linville had a pair of the Chargers three hits in game one.
“Our keys are pitching and defense and situational hitting and we had spurts but we really didn’t do any of the three,” said Yonto. “We just have to build on the positives.”
The Chargers (1-2) have a triple header Wednesday with Mohawk Valley Community College, Camden Community College and Bergen Community College.
