news_logoCity Engineer Rick Gaul updated the members of the Board of Public Works and Safety on the Safe Routes to School Grant during their meeting Monday.

The scoring team has reviewed the letters of interest and the results show the Troyer Group ranking in the top spot with Lawson/Fisher second and VS Engineering third.
The board approved moving forward with negotiations of a contract with the Troyer Group for the project. They also appointed a negotiations team of Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt, City Engineer Rick Gaul and the City Attorney Sean Surrisi. Gaul indicated they there really isn’t much negotiating due to the fact that INDOT has the rates set for pay and scope of the work.

The Safe Routes to School Grant is in the amount of $329,962 which is 80% of the project and the city’s share will be 20%. This project will make a safe route to schools on the north side of Baker Street from Columbus Drive to and including the intersection with Randolph.

In other business Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt requested and was granted approval to fill a labor position due to the retirement of John Vanhorn who has been with the city 16 or 17 years.
