City NEwsDuring Monday’s Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting Councilman Shawn Grobe said the Superintendent of Schools has decided against a 2 hour parking restriction on Gibson Street at the Lincoln Junior High School.

Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson gave several project updates. The Beerenbrook and Jefferson Street Storm Sewer Project has approximately 1,700 feet of 30 inch line has been installed with about 200 feet left to be installed. The project is at Jefferson and Beerenbrook and their intent is to cross Jefferson during the overnight hours when traffic won’t be so affected. The plan is to close Jefferson Street about 10 p.m. and cross the street and have the street back open by 7 a.m. A detour will be set up for the project. The project was started on August 18. The contract calls for 75 days with substantial completion by November 2nd and final completion on December 2nd. Davidson said, “The project is moving along pretty good and is on schedule.”

The second update Davidson did was for the Odor Control Unit at the end of South 6th Street. Start up was initially planned for the end of September but due to equipment delays it will be pushed back till the end of October.

The final update is for an 8-inch water main installation down Lincolnway East. The project starts at Leslie and travels east to Candy Lane where the project will stop this year. Next year Davidson said he plans to continue the project from Candy Lane to the city limits to the east where it will loop in with Pennsylvania Avenue.

The project is replacing a 2-inch water line that served the homes. He noted that there was very little fire protection so that is one of the goals to improve customer service there and water pressure.
