Bauer Building Parking Lot_2Members of the Plymouth Plan Commission discussed individual thoughts of revising the parking lot landscaping requirements during their meeting Wednesday night.

Plan Consultant Ralph Booker wanted the parking lot review committee to hear what commission members were thinking. Many of the most recent variance requests have pertained to the landscaping requirement.
Member Doug Feece said, “Many say the requirements make a project too expensive and then they have the financial cost for care and maintenance.”

The City requires parking lot landscaping on the right-of-way, perimeter and on the interior. There are options but a few members thought the requirements could be used to negotiate or compromise with other portions of the projects.

Commission member Greg Compton said they city didn’t even follow their own requirements when they built the new parking lot across the street from the mayor’s office. He said, “We told people we would look at revisions since so many are seeking variances from the requirements.”

The parking lot committee can now meet and determine if revisions are needed to the standards.”
