Monday evening members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the proposed list of street projects set forth by Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and City Engineer Rick Gaul.

The extreme winter took its toll on the city streets.  Although the city has already spent this year’s budget on a number of improvements to South Michigan, LaPorte, Garro, and Jefferson Streets, Mayor Senter said there were many other streets that needed to be addressed.

Projects being considered for the second round of mill and fill projects include:

Hillcrest Avenue:  From State Road 17 to Crimson Lane

Pennsylvania Avenue: From Michigan Street through the Liberty Street intersection

Water Street: From Garro Street to Adams Street

Adams Street: From Water Street to Michigan Street

Orchid Court: From Hillcrest thru the cul-de-sac

Novelty Street: From Michigan Street to Plum Street

First Street: From Jefferson Street to Monroe Street

Madison Street: From First Street to Plum Street

Liberty Street: From Pennsylvania Avenue to LaPorte Street

Liberty Street: From LaPorte Street to Rex Street and

Liberty Street: From Rex Street to Jefferson Street

The above projects will be selected to keep under budget while trying to complete as much work as much as possible.

Gaul said they projects would be bid in early July with an award planned for mid July and completion for streets near school facilities to be completed before school starts.

To fund the additional road projects the Plymouth Common Council held a public hearing for an additional appropriation of $300,000 from the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund.  There were no public comments and the County approved the additional by resolution.
