City NEwsCity department heads updated members of the Board of Public Works and Safety on activities in their departments during Monday night’s meeting.

Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson said the Eagle Scout Service Project of Kevin Bachman this weekend went very well. Two troops participated with 31 volunteers totaling about 235 man hours. They surveyed 590 of the city’s 1,844 storm sewer structures and installed 240 medallions warning that dumping goes directly to the river. Davidson said, “This was a very successful project.”

The storm sewer project at Berrenbrook and Jefferson Streets is underway. There are about 600 feet of pipe installed and three structures. The project is shut down now until after the Blueberry Festival.

The odor control structure at the south end of 6th street has begun. The concrete work is about 80% complete and installation of the fan and material should begin in the next week or two.

Davidson’s final item was a request to replace an employee who has submitted a letter of resignation in the water department. Replacement will be an entry level labor position that is in the budget.
