PLYMOUTH – In a game with a multitude of twists and turns Plymouth’s Pilgrims rode out the final twist to take a 5-4 win over Glenn at Bill Nixon Field on Friday night.

With pinch runner Cody Gamble at second, Bailey Clark punched an 0-2 Justin Gierlowski pitch to right field for a walk off single and the win.

“A lot of things could go either way,” said Plymouth head coach Ryan Wolfe. “We gave them a lot of base runners but we kept scratching and clawing, especially at the plate. I knew we couldn’t get behind a whole lot but if we kept it close we could have a chance.”

“The inning where they had the bases loaded with no out and they only got one. I think that was a huge inning. That speaks to the mental toughness we have to withstand some of those mental errors. We forget about them and it’s over with.”

That was the Glenn fifth when three Plymouth errors loaded the bases with the heart of the Falcon lineup coming to the plate. After Joel Hadden’s sacrifice fly plated Gage Bennet, Plymouth pitcher Brayden Davidson got Gierlowski to ground out to first and struck out Mason Rhodes to end the threat.

“It takes maturity for a sophomore to battle through that and not show emotion on the mound,” said Wolfe. “You have to keep your cool especially on the mound and he did a great job of getting ahead all night.”

Davidson was greeted rudely at the start of the game when Glenn used four hits to plate two runs, the big blow David Jaworski’s double – but the Pilgrims (14-11) answered with two of their own on Jacob Frantz’s two run single with two out.

Gierlowski struggled at times but made big pitch after big pitch to get himself out of every jam with a minimum of damage until the final frame.

Matt Flynn had a big senior night with a pair of hits and runs scored to go with an RBI. David Jaworski had a pair of doubles and RBI’s for Glenn (15-11).

The Pilgrims will be in action again on Monday night at Bill Nixon Field against Knox.
