County News_logoThere were a number of year end items the Marshall County Commissioners handled during their meeting Monday.

Ward Byers, Court Service Director presented two personnel renewal contracts for 2015.  Heather Green has been the drug and alcohol educator since 2011.  The only difference with the 2015 contract is an increase of her monthly payment from $200 to $250.  Byers said, “There’s ample funding in the 2015 budget to handle that increase.”  The contract will be from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.

The second renewal for Court Service approved was for Joe Deisch.  In October the commissioner approved a personnel contract with Deisch to fill in for Byers when he is out of the area. This new contract is for the entire 2015 calendar year at the same rate used during this year.

A new contract with Muskegon River Youth Center for juvenile detention service in 2015 was presented and tabled.   County Attorney Jim Clevenger said there were several major changes in the agreement.  He pointed out transportation. Previously they paid and handled all transportation.  It appears the new contract has them providing transportation at a cost of $149 per trip.  The detention center also provided substance and sexual abuse counseling services but this new contract has those services as an additional charge. His final concern is liability.  If a detained juvenile does damage to the facility, up to $2,500 could be charged to the county.

No one from probation was at the meeting to answer any of the commissioner’s questions so the 2015 contract was tabled until the December 31st meeting.

In other business the Commissioners approved the new 3-year farm lease with Karl Faulstich and KSF Farms and the memorandum of understanding between the county and City of Plymouth for planning services.
