County News_logoClyde Avery, the Marshall County Emergency Management Director updated the commissioners on the 2014 Competitive Grant.
Avery said, “We have received the sub-grant agreement from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security regarding the 2014 Competitive Grant Funding. That amount is for $8,485.29.”

Avery said they have identified two projects to use the funds for, one will be to conduct a Emergency Operation Center exercise while the other one is to purchase educational material that will be distributed to folks in the community.
The commissioners signed the agreement during Monday’s meeting.

In related EMA business Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “About a month ago I talked with Clyde about some protocol on some dams here in the county.” Avery didn’t have the plans on the dam at Lake Latonka so Overmyer was able to secure it for the EMA. During their discussion the dam at Mill Pond was brought up. Avery did some investigation and learned that the state DNR turned the dams over to the respective counties in the 90’s and they are in the Board of Commissions name although the Latonka Dam is privately owned.
Overmyer has set up a conversation with a representative from Commonwealth Engineers to learn more about the dams in the county at their December 15th meeting. There will be a discussion about inspecting the county owned dams.
