County News_logoThe Marshall County Highway Department had a number of items to discuss with the Commissions during their meeting Monday.
Three letters of interest were received for the Wetland and Stream mitigation project on the 7th Road project. Frost Engineering from Mishawaka, USI Consultants from Indianapolis and Premeria from Munster are interested in
A scoring committee was appointed and includes the three county commissioners, Laurie Baker the County Highway Administrative Manager and Jason Peters the County Highway Supervisor. Each member will review and score the information which is an INDOT requirement when selecting a company to complete the construction engineering.
Baker presented a prepay request for changes orders on the 7th Road project. The fund in currently in the hole about $80,000 and Baker told the commissioner they will be seeking an additional from the County Council next week in the amount of $175,000. It appeared the invoice from INDOT presented is the County’s 20% match for the dirt issue at a cost of $114,523.20 and the second invoice for $2,632.08.
Staying with the 7th Road project, MACOG recommended transferring money from the road project to the mitigation side utilizing some of the unused federal funding. The commissioners approved the transfer.
In other business, the commissioners approved the Hickory Road Bridge #81 agreement for project coordination between the county and INDOT. This is a total bridge replacement project that DLZ has been selected to engineer. The estimated cost is $1,658,000 and will qualify for the 80/20 federal split. The bridge is scheduled for replacement in 2017.
An update on the fuel pump installation at the County Highway Department was discussed by Jason Peters. North Central Coop anticipates starting the instillation this week and it should take about a week to complete. To avoid purchasing diesel from a filling station the diesel fuel was moved to the off road tank and that road fuel and will use while the main tank is down.
In final business Commissioner Jack Roose asked for an update on the road patching. Peters said on Plymouth Goshen Trail, from King to 4th road that portion is complete and they are almost up to 106 form 4th with wedging. They anticipate getting paint lines back down before the weather gets too bad.
