County News_logoMarshall County Treasurer Deb VanDeMark updated the county commissioners on the most recent tax sale.

On October 27th a total of 80 properties were listed on the tax lien sale conducted by SRI. Of the 80 properties 44 sold leaving 36. VanDeMark highlighted several properties on the list that have been in conversation prior to the sale. Discussions were to transfer the certificates to the City of Plymouth. There are three properties owned by John and Wende Kratzchmar and one by Kirby Whitaker. The Kratzchmar properties are in the flood plain in the area of River Park Square while Whitaker’s property is at the end of South Plum Street.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger said, “We have actually agreed earlier to a joint resolution with the City of Plymouth to transfer those parcels.” He said the city is still interested in following through with it.

VanDeMark also listed two lots owned by Jai Bhagwaan on East Jefferson Street, formerly the Clark Station.

The Jefferson Street parcels haven’t been paid since 2007. The amount owed on the two lots is just over $4,000. This property has been in the news recently and VanDeMark thought the city might be interested in them.

County Auditor Penny Lukenbill said about the remaining properties, “An option is to have an auction of the commissioner’s tax sale certificates for the properties that didn’t sell.” The certificates would be auction at a public bid after the commissioners set the minimum bids. The purchaser would then need to pursue a tax deed for the parcels. Lukenbill said it was a lengthy process to conduct the auction but during her 10 year they have conducted two auctions.

No action was taken by the commissioners.
