This week members of the Marshall County Council gave Wes Burden head of the County Health Department permission to begin the process to replace an employee.  Jerry Fussell, Environmentalist for the county has taken another position and Burden said, “It will be a rough transition without him.”  He was granted approval to move forward with the hiring process.

In other business the County Council approved additional for several departments.  The County Auditor was approved to spend $8,000 from the Ineligible Homestead Fund to purchase a copier.  Ward Byers from Court Services was granted an additional for software and software maintenance in the amount of $8,010 with the funds being provided by user fees.  The new software will allow information to be processed in several different applications using the Community Corrections modules the county already has.

Annette Osborn from the WIC office was happy to learn that the Feds had determined there was enough grant money to allow employees raises.  WIC employees did not receive the 3% raise at the first of the year but recently learned they can have the increase and it will be retroactive.  The department head will receive $938.00 while the nurse increase if $667,00 and the clerk will receive $760.00.  Increases also included $103.00 for PERF, $181.00 for Social Security, $2,000 for longevity and $133.00 for the breast feeding peer counselor.  The Council also granted Osborn permission to apply for next year’s grant.

Budget hearing are quickly approaching for 2015 so at the June meeting department heads who are expecting big changes in their budgets, $10,000 or more should appear before the council to explain their request.  They also want to hear any requests for new employees.
