County News_logoDuring Monday’s County Commissioner meeting, Laurie Baker, County Highway Administrative Manager said the annual bridge inspections were started by USI.

his year the county must complete a phase one inspection which is not as in-depth as the phase two. There are approximately 120 bridges in the county that will be visually inspected and photographed with a completed report presented to the commissioners and highway department.

Cost for the phase one inspection is $78,967.80. Baker said that 80% of the cost will be reimbursed by INDOT.

Jason Peters, County Highway Supervisor updated the commissioner on this year’s road program. The County Highway Department chip and sealed 38 to 40 miles of roadway, ground up 7 to 8 miles, pugged 5½ miles and paved 2½.

Peters said portions of Plymouth Goshen Trail are in bad shape. He said he is considering working on 2 to 3 miles with wedging and spot paving and then looking at an in-depth project next year. He received the support of the commissioners on the project.
