County Highway had “Road Closed” Signs Stolen

July 9, 2014

RoadClosed_signDo you think a “Road Closed” sign or a “Stop” sign would look good in your garage or man cave? They might, but you don’t want to get caught taking one illegally.
Marshall County Highway Foreman, Jason Peters told the commissioners Monday that three or four sets of “road closed” signs came up missing after last week’s storm caused extensive tree damage and closed many roadways.
Peters said the county’s sign guy estimates nearly 40 wooden, 2 foot barricades with the yellow flashing lights have been taken over the last year. Those signs run about $110 each. The plastic 8 foot barricade signs cost the county $85.45 each.
Peters said the signs aren’t that expensive but the possibility of someone getting seriously hurt because of stop sign or road closed sign is stolen could be tragic.
The highway foreman asked the commissioners for permission to look at the possibility of placing locator chips on county signs so they would be able to track their whereabouts using a satellite. The commissioners approved the request to investigate the cost of placing locator chips on county signs.
