Sheriff Dept. commendation Dec 2014Monday morning Sheriff Tom Chamberlin presented several officers with commendation to several officers.

Chamberlin said, “I hope this is the start of something that will happen every year. I would like to have presentations the first meeting in December and I hope my predecessor agree that this is an important opportunity for the public to see what the county employees of the Sheriff’s Department have done in the past year in providing some lifesaving efforts.”

First Sgt. Neal Wallace presented details on three separate lifesaving situations involving merit officers this last year and a half.

On June 27, 2013 at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a 55 year old male at his residence on Diamond Court that was not breathing and turning blue. Officers Matt Brown and Brandon Cooper arrived on scene and tended to the victim, using chest compressions and shocks from an AED. Officers Ryan Hollopeter and Rick Prater also arrived and assisted at the scene until Plymouth EMS arrived and continued with lifesaving care. Because of the response of the officers and EMS, the victim survived.

The second situation happened on March 11, 2014 at approximately 3:19 p.m. the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a house fire at a residence on 5C Road west of Michigan Road. Officer Travis O’Neal arrived on scene and assisted a male resident with pulling an elderly woman out of a window of the fully engulfed home and getting both residents a safe distance for the home. Officer O’Neal was treated and released from the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The final situation was on October 19th. Another 911 call was received concerning a 49 year old male, Chip Dean was unresponsive and possibly having a stroke in the backyard at 1009 Lincolnway in Plymouth. Jonathan Bryant along with officers of the Plymouth Police Department arrived on scene. Officer Bryant retrieved his ADE and with the assistance of the Plymouth officers administered a shock to the victim and continued lifesaving check compressions until Plymouth EMS arrived and continued lifesaving care. Because of the response of officers and EMS, the victim survived. Plymouth officers assisting were John Weir and Bob DeLee.
