Saturday afternoon about 4:30 the Marshall County Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash on 14B Road at the Burr Oak Cemetery.
County Officer Joe Giordano responded to the scene and learned the 20 year old Dillon R. Smith of Plymouth was traveling westbound on 14B Road west of Tulip. As the 1993 Dodge Stealth crested the hill just east of the cemetery it ran off the roadway on the left striking and destroying a large cement pillar located on the south side of 14B Road at the entrance to the cemetery.
Dillon Smith told Officer Giordano he swerved to avoid a deer.
This accident is still under investigation and unsafe speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
