Encore_38th InfantryEncore Performing Arts will be kicking off the Music in the Park season with a rousing celebration this Sunday, June 22. The Indiana National Guard’s 38th Infantry Division Band, headquartered in Indianapolis, is a premier military musical ensemble. Their concert last year drew one of the largest crowds ever. They perform ceremonies, concerts and parades in both military and civic capacities throughout the state.
Since its formation in 1917, the band has maintained a long and proud history with the 38th Division. The band saw action in the European theater during World War I and the Philippines during World War II. At that time, they became known as ‘The Avengers of Bataan’.
The group is comprised of several performing components including: the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Marching Band, Brass Quintet, Dixieland Band, Stage Band and Rock Band, Rapid Fire. The latter performed during the Indianapolis 500 festivities earlier this year.
The band is a versatile organization that performs a wide variety of music including marches, traditional and patriotic selections, as well as jazz and popular musical styles. They are in high demand throughout the state. Their members come from all walks of life and they are always looking for talented musicians with a passion for music and a desire to serve their country.
Perhaps their mission sums up their commitment: Army bands provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations to instill in our forces the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens and promote national interests at home and abroad.
Tune in to WTCA this Friday morning for a live interview.
All Music in the Park concerts are in beautiful Centennial Park at the Young Amphitheater at the corner of Baker and Randolph.
