FreedomPark_PackardWoods_phase2Plymouth Park Superintendent Mike Hite updated members on the new playground equipment for Freedom Park at Packard Woods.

In September the park board was approached by the Freedom Park committee with the idea of moving the all-inclusive playground from Centennial Park to Packard Woods so they wouldn’t encroach on the Blueberry Festival. They also knew that the park’s main playground equipment had been destroyed in a July storm.
The park board approved the relocation and offered to complete the first phase of the accessible park using the insurance money to get the project started.

Freedom Park had received a huge grant for the equipment from Game Time with the stipulation that the equipment be purchased yet this year. That equipment has arrived and is being stored inside until installation can be done in the spring. Hite said the equipment arrived by semi and was unloaded by his staff.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said due to the fact that the equipment was purchased using insurance funds and the grant they did not have to bid out the purchase. Indiana Code does require paperwork to confirm the purchase of the playground equipment for the State Board of Accounts.
