Crash_US30&King_10-6-14_1Emergency responders were dispatched to a jackknifed semi at the intersection of US 30 and King Road about 1:15 Monday afternoon that tied up traffic for several hours.

Crash_US30&King_10-6-14_fue Leak47 year old Edward Tripp Jr. from Park Forest, IL was west bound and attempting to make a left turn into the Pilot Truck Stop at King and 30. For an unknown reason he jackknifed the semi causing damage to the fuel tank on the driver’s side of the tractor allowing nearly a full tank of fuel to leak out onto the ground.

Crash_US30&King_10-6-14_fireThe Plymouth Fire Department responded and tried to maintain the fuel spill and called for the state to bring in sand to control fuel spill. As emergency responders waited the fuel spread well into the intersection and county police closed the intersection.

Crash_US30&King_10-6-14_intersectionTripp was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for the complaint of pain.

Crash_US30&King_10-6-14_2County Officer Les McFarland investigated the incident. He was on the scene for several hours waiting for an environmental company out of South Bend to arrive on scene to handle the fuel spill.

Officer McFarland was assisted at the scene by Plymouth Fire, Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspector, and INDOT.
