IvyTechLogoA report released by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) shows that 2012 Indiana public high school graduates that chose to attend college chose Ivy Tech Community College by a two to one margin over any other public institution of higher education in Indiana.

The CHE’s Indiana College Readiness Report released this week indicates that nearly 28 percent of the graduates (9,324) that enrolled in public colleges or universities enrolled at Ivy Tech. This represents an increase of nearly 500 students compared to last year’s total of 8,870 or 26 percent of graduates that enrolled at Ivy Tech.

The next closest institution was Indiana University-Bloomington with 13.5 percent of the graduates. Purdue University-West Lafayette (9.9 percent), Ball State University (9 percent) and Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (8.5 percent) rounded out the top five schools of choice.

“High school graduates and their families are continuing to realize the benefits of the community college,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder. “The affordability coupled with degrees resulting in good-paying jobs along with the convenience of transferring credits from Ivy Tech to other colleges and universities is making the community college a great asset to many Hoosier families, particularly when the cost of a four-year degree exceeds that of the median Indiana household income.”
