County News_logoBart Trester, Project Supervisor from USI Consultants appeared before the Marshall County Commissioners Monday to update them on the 7th Road Project, Metronet conduit instillation project and Jefferson Street Bridge issues.

Traffic has been running on the third phase of the round-a-bout and the contractor is in process of starting work on the round-about to the bridge over the Seltenright Ditch with hopes of opening the round-a-bout yet this year. Most of the bridge construction over the ditch is complete with only railing items to complete. Trester estimated 3 more weeks of work to complete the round-a-bout.

99 percent of the conduit instillation on the county’s Metronet project is finished. CSU is scheduled to complete Overmyer Drive yet this week. Trester submitted section one, from LaVille School to the Plymouth City limits which finishes the original contract. There were no punch list items for section one. There are still some drain tiles that were damaged during instillation that have not been repaired. He suggested withholding payment until the drain tiles are repaired ad approved by the County surveyor.

Commissioner Roose was a bit leery giving CSU the green light. He asked what guarantee Trester had that the work would be completed and Bart said, “I have 2 months of pay estimates that haven’t been paid yet.”

The commissioners approved the acceptance of the Metronet infrastructure with a stipulation that invoices would be held until the drainage repairs are completed.

The final project Trester commented on was the Jefferson Street Bridge. Work is complete on the west side and well underway on the east side. Beer & Slabaugh were scheduled to pour the mud walls on Monday and back fill on Tuesday with work on the curb and sidewalk to follow. They are also going to seal the bridge decking yet this week as well. Trester believes the bridge should be open by the end of the week or Monday at the latest dependent on the weather.
