The Foundation of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center invites the community to join it in celebrating the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ as they receive the 2014 Community Spirit Award.

The Congregation will be recognized at the 2014 Catch the Spirit Gala on July 11 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth. The Gala, a garden party on the fairway of Swan Lake Resort, begins with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m.

The Community Spirit Award is given to Marshall County residents who exemplify the spirit of the very best of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. The Poor Handmaids have a long history of caring for the sick, the children and the elderly in the Fort Wayne/South Bend Diocese and other areas around the Midwest. The Poor Handmaids continue to listen to the needs of others and respond in a courageous way.

Founded in 1851 in Dernbach, Germany, the Congregation came to Indiana in 1868 and settled near Fort Wayne. In 1909, at the request of Bishop Alerding, the Congregation founded the Saint Joseph Community Hospital in Mishawaka, IN.

The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ are an International Congregation with over 600 members worldwide; approximately 90 sisters form the American province. Throughout northern Indiana, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ minister in a variety of ways including education, healthcare, spiritual growth, care for the environment and social work.
All proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Emergency Room expansion at the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

Reservations are required by June 27. To make a reservation, click here. For more information, call 574-335-4543 or email thefoundation@sjrmc.com.
