PSW_LightPoles_0On Monday, Michiana Contracting began the process to remove and install new lights at Bill Nixon Field in Centennial Park. The lights at Bill Nixon Field were installed in the mid 70s.

PSW_LightPoles_1The eight light poles that are ninety feet tall were removed on Monday. Six of the lights and poles made their way to the Plymouth Speedway on Monday and the remaining two were moved Tuesday morning thanks to the assistance of the Plymouth Police Department with escorts. The eight poles which have a total of approximately 100 lights will light the 3/8 mile dirt track next year and the new grandstands. Plymouth Speedway was able to purchase the poles and lights from Michiana Contracting.

PSW_LightPoles_2On October 7th the Plymouth Park Board approved the sole bid of Michiana Contracting for the project to replace and install new poles and lights new underground wiring and transformers. The base bid was $188,335 and the board picked alternate one which includes a 25 year warrant including the replacement of any burned out bulbs and a remote control package that can be accessed from a phone or computer for an additional $8,500 bringing the total to $196,835.

PSW_LightPoles_3Because of new technology only six new lights will be installed. The new lights are much more energy efficient too.

PSW_LightPoles_4During Monday night’s Park Board meeting, Superintendent Mike Hite told member that he doesn’t expect the project to be completed before March. He did assure them that they would be ready for the spring baseball season.
